The patterns in nature are beguiling and engaging to the human mind. Rivers, trees, coastlines, ice crystals, plants, galaxies and even forms within the human body develop growth patterns called fractals (self- replicating forms). Sometimes insects evolve to resemble flowers (mimesis) and sometimes in this case flowers resemble insect wings. Fractals have been shown to relieve stress and bring about healing. They have been found in the works of many artists like Jackson Pollock and Leonardo da Vinci.

I wanted to express the fragility and textures within the flower, its turgid and flaccid aspects and the intrinsic embedded forms within the petals showing the many ways in which the fractal patterns have been expressed within the bloom. I wanted the transparent colours to vibrate and the light to glow through the work. I wanted to create this work in such a way that the viewer could see the resemblance of the petals to the delicacy of tiny wings. To engage them in the magic of that idea and the connectedness of all things.
